Hacking The Planet : Hacking Hurricanes

Premise: ``Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it,'' according to a popular saying often attributed to Mark Twain. That may have been true but not so much now, because there are people trying to do something about the weather. This documentary, hosted by former science writer John Rennie, looks at the work of scientists trying to develop ways to prevent, weaken or redirect dangerous weather and geological phenomena, like tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. This  episode follows Rennie as he conducts a series of experiments to figure out how, potentially, to manipulate the Earth -- and whether it would help or harm mankind or the planet. Assisting Rennie are science blogger Cara Santa Maria and science comedian Brian Malow -- yes, he's a science comedian -- who talk the host through the plausibility of each scenario.

Follow this team on a quest to achieve one of the most audacious undertakings ever: to excavate frozen mammoth tissue in order to clone it.

Day of Terror: Remembering the Oklahoma City Bombing

In this documentary survivors discuss the bombing that took place in Oklahoma City, Okla. on April 19, 1995. Before September 11th, before Osama bin Laden, there was Oklahoma City, and there was Timothy McVeigh. Eleven years ago, a truck bomb ripped through the nine-story Alfred P. Murrah federal building, including a day care center on the second floor. April 19, 1995, changed the way Americans thought about terrorism. The attack killed 168 men, women and children. Hundreds of others were wounded. At the time, it was the worst terrorist attack ever on U.S. soil -- a homegrown terrorist attack.

The ‘80’s

This is the initial episode in a six-part historical  documentary  miniseries which takes viewers back in time to see how the ’80s created our modern world. The first episode explores the revolution in personal entertainment brought on by Pac-Man, Sony Walkmans and Jane Fonda’s ground-breaking workout video. Apple’s Steve Wozniak helps explain how Bill Gates saw the future by selling IBM the rights to use MS-DOS software for a relatively small one-time fee, only to clean up when IBM competitors entered the market and all wanted the same software. The assassination of John Lennon heralded the end of one music era, while a bratty new kid on the block defined a new one — spelled “MTV.” Follow the musical reverberations of the birth of MTV and the music video’s role in taking hip-hop mainstream, and hear how the television series “Dallas” reinvigorated the notion that money and greed were good. Sharing their firsthand stories are Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Steven Tyler, Jane Fonda, Steve Wozniak and “Dallas” star Larry Hagman, Subsequent episodes air in this timeslot Monday and Tuesday.
