Diggers: Whiskey Rebellion

Hobbyist metal detectors travel the country looking for lost relics of history, driven not by money, but the thrill of not knowing what their next dig will unearth. They understand that every item has a story to tell. They are invited by landowners, historians and archaeologists to go on a quest, and in their own way, a crusade, to unearth history that would have otherwise been forgotten.  In this program they are in western Pennsylvania at one of the oldest sites they've ever hunted: the heart of the Whiskey Rebellion. Here, George Washington and his troops fought to suppress farmers who were protesting a new federal tax an home-made whiskey.

The Ultimate Guide To The Presidents

In the week preceding the 2013 Presidential inauguration, the History Channel presents a guide to U.S. Presidents from George Washington to Barack Obama. The eight-hour series  premieres today .(Log on to link below for complete schedule of episodes in the coming 2 weeks.) Forty-three men have taken the oath of President of the United States. Whether each set groundbreaking precedent, declared war or enacted laws altering the destiny of millions, each found himself in the eye of the storm. The programs delve inside the inner-workings of the Presidency, as well as the minds, methods and motivations of each man who has held the position of Commander-In-Chief.  Each episode also explores how the Office of the Presidency has evolved over the past 222 years. When George Washington was elected, no one knew what a President was. There was no title, no policy, and no code of behavior for a Chief Executive. So everything he did – from selecting a Cabinet to determining where the Capitol should be– set precedents for the nation’s future. Interviews with historians, past administration officials, and family members portray the role of the Presidency as an ever-changing institution that is influenced by the personalities of each of the men and how each interacts with the events transpiring in the world around them.

Who Really Discovered America?

Did a number of explorers discover the New World long before Christopher Columbus staked his claim in 1492? No less than a dozen cultures have tales of these adventurers woven into their histories, but they are noticeably absent in American history books. This documentary explores the possibility that the Chinese, Japanese, Polynesians, Norse, Welsh, Irish and Ancient Hebrews  all made it to the Americas earlier than Columbus. Rebuild the ships, trace the routes, test the artifacts and analyze blood evidence to finally learn the answer to one of the greatest mysteries of all time--who really discovered America?   TV-PG
