Globe Trekker : Lebanon

Airing on KLCS, this documentary visits  Lebanon. Included: the capital, Beirut; the countryside. Lebanon is a country located between the desert and the sea. The location is a both blessing and a curse, with war being waged on this fertile ground for over four millennia. The rich soil and varied history of Lebanon have resulted in a world class cuisine. Chef Merrilees Parker travels to the capital of Beirut, and then in to the countryside of Lebanon to learn more about its people, their culture and their cuisine. After a day in Lebanon's chicest city, Merrilee heads to its oldest, the ancient city of Tyre. The Phoenicians arrived in Tyre in 4000 BC when - as the first sea faring nation in the Middle East - they established a trading post for silks and spices, building a vast empire on the back of the purple dye of the murex mollusk. While over-fishing has taken its toll on the Mediterranean stocks, the Tyre markets are still a good destination for fresh seafood.

The Life Of Muhammad

Airing  on KOCE, this is a broadcast of all three episodes of a documentary miniseries about  a man who, in little more than 20 years, changed the world forever. In a journey that is both literal and historical, host Rageh Omaar retraces the footsteps of the Prophet, from his humble beginnings in Mecca to his struggles with accepting his Prophetic role; from his flight to Medina to his subsequent military and political successes and failures--through to his death and his legacy.    TV-PG
Episodes include...
The Seeker - This film examines Muhammad's birth and early life, his first marriage to Khadijah, and how he received the first of the revelations that so profoundly affected both his life and the lives of those closest to him.
Holy Wars - Omaar shines a light on key events in Muhammad's life, including the Night Journey to Jerusalem, his life-threatening departure from Mecca, the establishment of the Constitution of Medina that recognizes the rights of all people (Jews, Christians, and pagan tribes) living in that city, and the war with the Meccan tribes, with implications on the world today.
Holy Peace - The final film investigates key events during the later part of the Prophet's life, including the introduction of a moral code known as sharia and the concept of jihad, explores Muhammad's use of marriage to build alliances, and looks at the key messages included in his final sermon.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood

Airing  on KLCS,  this is a broadcast of an adaptation of Charles Dickens' "The Mystery of Edwin Drood," about an opium-addled choirmaster who believes his nephew stands between him and the woman he fancies.
By all appearances, respected choirmaster John Jasper (Matthew Rhys, Brothers & Sisters) should have a quiet life in the small village of Cloisterham. But the serenity is pierced by Jasper's opium-fueled dreams and surreal fantasies. At Jasper's despairing epicenter is his obsession with his nephew Edwin Drood's fiancé, Rosa Bud. When the handsome and cheerful Drood arrives for a visit with Rosa Bud, Jasper's previously hidden longings are slowly and unnervingly revealed. Simultaneously, orphan twins Neville and Helena Landless arrive from Ceylon to receive the charity of the community. But what could their connection to Cloisterham be and why would Jasper seem so shaken by their presence? And, when someone goes missing, is it all just a dark dream or are there very real sinister secrets yet buried in Cloisterham?
