Queen Victoria’s Empire

Airing on KOCE, this is a broadcast of a complete documentary miniseries about Britain’s empire. At the time of Queen Victoria's birth in 1819, England was an agrarian society. Within a few short decades, this small island nation would be transformed into an industrial superpower, with an empire spanning the globe. The program is both the story of this remarkable time, and an engaging portrait of a Queen who ruled over a one-fifth of the world's population. It is the story of the influential figures that would shape a distinctively British imperialism: Gladstone, Disraeli, Livingstone, Rhodes, and Prince Albert, Victoria's husband. Whether driven by profit, passion, or noble ideals, these figures would fuel an expansion unequaled in history, forever changing Britain and the lands it controlled. Personal accounts, lush reenactments, and evocative cinematography from former outposts of the Empire, including India and Africa, recount the dramatic clash of personalities and cultures that would drive Victoria's remarkable 64-year reign

Churchill

Airing on KOCE, this program looks at the man behind the legend, bringing you closer to the real Churchill through the eyes of those closest to him.  His childhood at Blenheim Palace, Churchill is reported to have stated that he would one day become Prime Minister and he duly achieved his aim aged 65. However, the determination and doggedness which marked Churchill out from his peers was both a strength and a weakness. His political career veered from champion of the public interest, fighting Nazism in World War II, to political isolation in later life when he was accused of 'warmongering'. This three-part documentary follows the highs and lows of Churchill's personal, military and political life and gives us a new insight into the man.
